Phase 4 Of An Idea
Phase 4 Of An Idea
Welcome to the continuation
of our discussion on the 4 phases of an idea. To review, Phase 1 was creation, a
burst of energy. Phase 2 was sharing the idea with a like-minded person.
Phase 3 was making the idea tangible, real.
The Dream Round-Up became real in April 2002
because of the help of some dedicated people and the expertise of our webmaster
Ben McGaughey. Ben is a delight to work with and is one of the most
creative internet people I know. If you need web advice, you can e-mail
him at ben@mywebintro.com. He
definitely deserves some recognition.
The first 3 phases of an idea are
fun. Your mind explores all the possibilities. You are comfortable and confident
your project will succeed. I call this the honeymoon phase. It's easy to
see the value of the idea and how easy it will be, how all the doors in the
world will swing wide open and your project will be on the cover of USA
Today. Oprah will call and take you and your project to new heights.
Only in America!
Of course, then reality sets in! When I wrote my
first book, Let's Save America! 9 Lessons to Financial Success, I spent 16
months of blood, sweat and tears completing the project, with many 16-hour days.
When my friend Don Ferrell joined me in the writing, I could see the book on the
bestseller list, and schools adopting all its financial principles. Overnight we
were going to create a generation of millionaires! Soon the editing was
done, the electronic files went to the printer, and in June 2000 I had the book
in my hand. What a feeling! Do you know what the world said? "So
what!" Ouch. That hurt!
I quickly learned that any great
idea, including writing a book, doesn't mean a thing unless you know how to
share it with others. It's called marketing. I know many wonderful people who
have great ideas and don't know what to do with them.
When an idea
collides with reality, what do most people do? They quit. Rather
than pursue the dream, they create something new. It's a great distraction
strategy I used for years. You go from idea to idea, and never take anything to
completion.
It takes great dedication to succeed. It takes
persistence, faith and belief. Colonel Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame
was rejected over 200 times before he sold his first recipe. Abraham Lincoln
lost many elections and became President of the United States.
After 2
years of battling financial illiteracy, I have hardly made a dent into the
problem as credit card debt in this country continues to rise. The Dream
Round-Up has collected only 1,496 dreams with a goal of 1,000,000. Should
we quit? Of course not! Each day we meet new people to support our
cause. Each day we try new techniques to share these projects with this great
nation. It is not "if" but "when" we will become successful. Dreams are
coming true all around us and children are learning how to become
millionaires. It is our responsibility to see this project to the end.
See your projects through. Follow your dreams and you too will
make a difference in your life and the lives of others.
May all your
dreams come true. Bradley E. Dugdale. Jr. National Dream Round-Up
