THANKSGIVING-THE FAMILY'S JOURNEY HOME
Whether the journey is cross country or simply to
the dining room table, the dream of nearly every American family is to create a
time of togetherness at Thanksgiving. Our hope for this magical interlude
typically involves a desire for loving interactions, acceptance of our
differences, and gratitude for the simple warmth of our kinship. It is an
opportunity for each family to create a new memory while celebrating traditions
handed down from those who have gone before.
Often the most difficult part of our journey is the distance from our
day-to-day challenges to the dining table in the next room. Each of us
often comes to this time carrying an image of how things ought to be...if we
were able to set the scene just so. What would this day bring if we were
able to put aside our expectations, and simply enjoy the spirit of being
together? We might find--
A day when our family's story could be told-
A day when just
being part of something larger than ourselves is enough-
A day of joy
and excitement-
A day of kindness-
A day without
distractions-
A day of rekindling the dream-
A day when we are
reminded of the possibilities-
A day of remembering-
A day,
not really about the turkey, the stuffing, the china and the
silver-
A day about us-
My Favorite Recipe for Thanksgiving Dinner
1. Turn to a new page in the cookbook-welcome someone to your home
2.
Add a measure of self-value-give everyone a role in the preparation
3. Fold
in something familiar-celebrate a tradition
4. Sprinkle with the once a year
holiday spice-call a special person who is not present
5. Fill the kitchen
with wonderful aromas-share a family story
6. Add a warm glow-light a
candle
Hold hands, look at one another and
smile...
Give thanks for the
opportunity...
Enjoy the meal....
