Writing Down Your Dreams
GOT SUPPORT?
Too much to do, and too little
time to do it? Out of your element? Getting little or no support from family and
friends in your life? Need a little help?
Whether you realize it or not, you have tremendous
support, right here at the Dream Round-Up, from individuals who have impressive
credentials and a rock solid foundation. Financial and business advice,
inspiration, motivation, guidance, and advice for marital, relationship, family,
and interpersonal challenges are all here, free for the taking, to help you
recognize, refine, pursue, and achieve your dreams.
All you have to do is write your question and send
it to the Dream Round-Up. If you wouldn't mind our running the question (minus
your name, if you wish), and the reply from our board members, in this
newsletter, please say so in your question, and be sure to give us your e-mail
address so we can contact you if necessary. If you want a particular board
member to address your question, no problem. If you'd like input from more than
one (sort of an instant second opinion!) just say so.
Support is what we do. It's why we're here. Seeing
you achieve your dreams is part of our dream. We want yours to come true,
too.

FROM THE BOARDROOM
Why
don't most people write down their dreams and goals? These are words that are
easy to say, but hard to achieve. Do you have something you want to accomplish?
By now, you know the drill: take out a clean sheet of paper and write it down.
Set a timeline and initiate a list of "action steps" to accomplish it. Sound
easy?
If you've already planted your dreams with us, you're familiar with this
concept, and you know it isn't easy at all. This is one of the reasons it's such
an uphill climb getting your friends and loved ones to participate in the Dream
Round-Up. Why is that?
Most people freeze. It's a personal commitment. It's difficult to sign a
personal contract and hold yourself accountable. Once you've committed to an
outcome, you feel the responsibility to work toward accomplishing your goals.
You might fail. You might fall flat on your face. If you never set a goal, you
can't fail. People without goals don't have to be responsible to anything or
anybody -- even themselves.
For some people there's another stumbling block: they don't think they
deserve success. They don't think it's right to put their own dreams "out there"
when there are so many others depending on them. They're too busy taking care of
everybody else.
In 1950, several Ivy League colleges took on a study of that year's
graduating classes. One of the questions asked of the graduates was whether they
had set firm life goals. Eighty-seven percent responded no; 10% said they had
set mental goals but had not committed them to writing. Only 3% had put their
life goals in writing.
The schools monitored the graduates for 25 years, and, in 1975, found that
the 87% who held no goals had average levels of achievement. The 10% who kept
their goals in their minds instead of on paper outperformed the 87% group. The
3% who had written goals, however, outdistanced them all. They had accumulated
more assets than the entire 97%.
THE 3% WITH CLEAR DIRECTION AND A SIGNED
PERSONAL CONTRACT HAD OUTPERFORMED THE REST OF THE CLASS COMBINED.
